My Story . . . I am thrilled to be offered a fellowship with LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training) in Rwanda, Africa during the month of August of 2019. The purpose of LRTT is to deliver high quality, sustainable, research-based teacher training. I will be working with a team of educators to mentor, learn, grow and create, with a passionate group of Rwanda educators. Education is the key to growth and change, and every child deserves the opportunity for quality education, especially in regions where there are not many resources. There are teachers in these areas who have a passion for teaching children, but do not have the training teachers get in developed countries. Through this exciting opportunity, there will be collaboration and sharing of teaching strategies to engage students and bring classrooms to life, to ultimately equip and empower Rwandan teachers with the skills they need to create a positive impact on student learning. In addition, global perspectives and new insights into culture, as well as new teaching strategies, will be returned to my community and school.
I applied to be a fellow in Rwanda because this country has suffered much trauma and loss in recent years, yet they demonstrate incredible resiliency to continue to move forwards. The Rwandan education system has faced many challenges, including in the aftermath of the Genocide in 1996, and recently with the change of language from French to English. LRTT has been working in Nyamasheke District since 2016 and continues to support the government education reforms. Since the project cost is not funded, donations will help pay for the program fee which includes food/accommodations and transportation for me while I am in Rwanda as well as training and mentoring and the participation costs for local Rwandan teachers to attend the program. Your donation will NOT go towards my personal expenses while in Rwanda. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers . . . It is much appreciated! |
